Kannah Creek Trail Restoration

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado

Location From the Kannah Creek Trailhead at 10,300 feet, the trail winds through high-altitude wetlands that give way to spruce, fir, lodgepole pine, and ponderosa pine before emerging into scrub oak and cottonwood at 6,100 feet. Highlights of this “roadless area” include several waterfalls, cliffs north of the trail and life-list wildlife: moose in the sub-alpine marshes, mule deer in the lower-elevation brush, and black bears, cougars, and coyotes at any point.

Description

Kannah Creek Trail Restoration

Kannah Creek is a popular trail for back country horsemen and hikers exploring the remote wilderness of the Grand Mesa. The trail boasts cascading waterfalls and stunning views of Grand Junction and Utah. The trail is also a victim of an abundance of spring runoff which has caused severe erosion. Join a small crew on your choice of two weekend work projects to restore this popular trail. Volunteers will construct structures to divert water off the trail while creating a more safe and sustainable route to one of the world's largest flat top mountains.
