Salida Mountain Trail ConstructionVolunteers for Outdoor Colorado
DescriptionSalida Mountain Trail Construction Back Bone is not only the name of the trail that we will be tackling on this project, but it is also the centerpiece of an ambitious plan to build 40 miles of new hiking trails in the Arkansas valley. Much of the planned recreational area was donated by the City of Salida with the goal of providing a healthy outlet for the citizens of Colorado and surrounding towns. The land had previously been subjected to significant dumping and illegal use, however since the implementation of several trails the area has seen a sharp decrease in litter. Volunteers will be building a continuation of the Back Bone trail which will connect to existing trails in the general vicinity. The trail will be open to hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners, and will allow users to take in some of the most stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks in the Arkansas valley.
