Description

Perfect for families, budding naturalists and anyone concerned about the impacts of noxious weeds.

Join us to pull some weeds on an important archeological site not open to the public. The Pulling For Colorado flagship event will be held at Lamb Spring, just south of Chatfield Reservoir in Douglas County. Non-native plants, (read weeds!) are rapidly becoming a BIG problem in Colorado. They impact wildlife diversity, watershed health, agriculture and even your backyard. Join citizens on July 11 on projects across Colorado and help battle these invaders. This half-day event features weed removal, native planting, and educational events! The public is usually not allowed on this site so it will be a unique experience for volunteers that day to help remove noxious weeds from the area. This 35-acre preserve contains the remains of at least 24 mammoths along with other Pleistocene animals including camel and sloth. Partially excavated in the 1960s and again in the 1980s by the Smithsonian, the site contains possible evidence of man’s presence dating back 13,000 years. At a higher level in the site, an 8,000-year-old Cody complex bison kill was discovered. This Pulling For Colorado event will be limited to the first 100 volunteers. Parking is restricted, so please carpool!
