Colorado Springs Crew Leader TrainingOutdoor Stewardship Institute (OSI)
DescriptionOSI Crew Leader Training The Outdoor Stewardship Institute in conjunction with Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation will present an engaging training program for crew leadership for trail building. The primary audience is groups who are “Friends of” Colorado Springs Parks; however, any interested parties from surrounding cities, counties, clubs or land agencies are welcome to participate! OSI is Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado’s (VOC) leadership development and technical training program. This two-day training will introduce the fundamentals of successful volunteer crew management for the construction and maintenance of sustainable trails. Through classroom sessions, field exercises and role-playing you'll learn and practice construction and maintenance of trails, leadership strategies and techniques, tool use and safety. This workshop is best for individuals that have had experience working on trail projects. All trainees will receive a Crew Leader Guide, quick reference cards and other tools that will make for a successful crew leadership experience. All training topics are directly applicable to any trail maintenance or construction project. Many organizations have specialty-use interests in trails (cycling, equestrian etc.) that require additional training or mentoring within your organization before conferring the title of crew leader. OSI recommends a minimum of two days of mentoring for crew leader candidates for any organization, and more for specialty organizations. Mentoring consists of a candidate working as an apprentice to an experienced volunteer crew leader or other technically experienced individual. There is a $50.00 fee for this two day training. Through a generous grant from the Consultancy of Baker, Jake & Powell, the fee for students possessing a current student ID will be reduced to $35. |
